AUSTIN (KXAN) — In August, the University of Texas announced a new pilot program to improve campus safety and keep the area clean.The West Campus Ambassadors program includes two teams of ambassadors: safety ambassadors and cleaning ambassadors who operate on foot, bicycle and by truck.Since the program started, both safety and cleaning ambassadors have been busy.In just over two months, the safety ambassadors have escorted more than 130 residents home. Students who feel unsafe or want someone to walk with can request an ambassador.Cleaning ambassadors patrol West Campus as well, looking for any trash or graffiti. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Austinites will have plenty of opportunity to spread some festive cheer and support local vendors this holiday season with the return of the 23rd annual Blue Genie Art Bazaar. The annual holiday tradition will include products created by more than 200 local artists and available for purchase at the Blue Genie Big Top, located at 6100 Airport Blvd. The holiday bazaar is open Nov. 17 through Dec. 24 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily except for Christmas Eve, when the shop closes at 6 p.m.Each Monday during the holiday bazaar season, a portion of proceeds will go toward the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Central & South Texas, officials said in a release. In an effort to increase reporting on mail service problems in her district, U.S. Rep. Angie Craig has introduced legislation to increase transparency of the U.S. Postal Service.The bill requires the postal service ot notify customers of undelivered and partially delivered routes by zip codes, according to a news release sent out by Craig, with the goal being to keep customers informed of when they can expect deliveries or delays.Rep. A man found fatally shot early Monday in St. Paul was a 23-year-old, police said Wednesday.David Lashawn Isaac, of St. Paul, died on the West Side.A 911 caller just after midnight Monday reported “a person down on the ground” behind a residence in the 400 block of South Clinton Avenue, police have said.Officers found Isaac in a driveway/parking lot area behind townhomes. He had apparently been shot and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene near Cesar Chavez and Robert streets.No one was under arrest as of Wednesday and police said their investigation of the city’s 29th homicide of the year is ongoing. For the second straight week, the Vikings have a defensive player that has been honored by the NFL.After linebacker Jordan Hicks got the honor last week, safety Cam Bynum has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week.It was very much deserved after Bynum posted a pair of interceptions to help lead the Vikings to a 22-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. A gun was found at Roseville Area High School Tuesday and a student was detained, according to the principal.The case comes a month after two students at the same school were found with guns in separate incidents.In Tuesday’s case, school staff received a report about 1 p.m. that a gun was on campus, Principal Jen Wilson wrote in a letter to families. As a precaution, students and staff were told to stay in their classrooms.The school worked with Roseville police to conduct a search and the gun was found, Wilson wrote.“From a school perspective, our next step for the student involved will be to follow our disciplinary action, which has a number of potential results up to and including expulsion,” Wilson said.On Sept. 25, a handgun was found in a 17-year-old student’s backpack at Roseville Area High School. That afternoon, in an unrelated case, a 16-year-old student was discovered with a gun. KINGSTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Naveion Kirkley, 26, of Albany, was sentenced to five years in state prison. Kirkley was indicted by an Ulster County Grand Jury for possessing a loaded 9mm pistol with an altered serial number. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Kirkley and a co-defendant, Naseem Pass, were accused of running from police following a traffic stop. State Troopers located the loaded pistol in the center console of the car and charged the two with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.Kirkley will also serve five years of post-release supervision.
