Obituary: For John Soderberg, new St. Croix River bridge was ‘signature achievement’

Half a century ago, John Soderberg led the charge to save the Willow River in Wisconsin.Soderberg, the longtime president and CEO of First National Community Bank in New Richmond, Wis., founded Restore Our Willow River and spearheaded the creation of the Upper Willow Rehabilitation District, which required the signatures of 51 percent of the affected landowners; Soderberg got 62 percent.The skills Soderberg gained during that process were instrumental in his work as a stakeholder in the development of the new St. Croix River bridge south of Stillwater, said his son, Scott Soderberg, who lives in Hudson.“He knew you had to involve all the stakeholders,” Scott Soderberg said. “You had to have people who were knowledgeable and include people who were opposed to it to get things done. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan kicked off the golf season with the annual first putt at the Capital Hills Golf Course. The park has a few new features this year including pickle ball courts and tools for golfers, including new signs, GPS monitors and online reservations. GREENWICH, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Washington County announced a planned road closure in the town of Greenwich, set to begin on or around Monday, April 17. A section of Christie Road will be closed until mid-July, in accordance with a project by the New York State Department of Transportation. The affected section of Christie Road passes over Whittaker Brook, running between State Route 29 and Mahaffy Road. MIDDLEBURGH, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On Tuesday, New York State Police of Cobleskill arrested Emily G. Blond, 33, of Middleburgh. According to the police, Blond had rented a U-Haul from Warnerville in December 2022 but failed to return it the next day. WILTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A crash involving a pedestrian was reported on Maple Avenue around 8:18 p.m. on Thursday. Police say, Mary L. Starting Friday, the city is getting work done on the park bandstand to ensure it can hold the weight of that much fun. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A man was handed a life sentence in a deadly parking lot shooting in north St. Louis County that happened several years ago. Investigators say Anthony Tate, 27, fatally shot one man and hurt two others in a shooting on Dec. 12, 2019. He opened fire at a vehicle in a parking lot on Lewis and Clark Boulevard. Tate killed Timothy Simmons and seriously hurt two others in the shooting. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - One driver was shot before he ended up in a crash early Friday morning in north St. Louis County. Police responded to assist the victim around 4:30 a.m. Friday after the crash, which happened near Highway 367 and Dunn Road. As he was checking out at a convenience store one day, state Rep. Kurtis Gregory said he looked down and saw “delta-8 THC” products being sold.He had no idea THC, the intoxicating component mostly associated with marijuana, could be sold openly outside of dispensaries. “I messaged a few folks and to my surprise, yep, that is completely at this point legal to be sold,” Gregory, a Republican from Marshall, said during a House committee hearing on Tuesday.The products that caught Gregory’s eye give people a high by way of a concentrated amount of delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that’s typically manufactured from hemp-derived cannabidiol, or CBD. Because hemp is legal, hemp-derived THC products avoid the intense scrutiny marijuana receives.
