California sues oil companies over climate change, seeking billions and claiming decades of deception California has filed a major lawsuit against five of the world’s largest oil companies, saying they knew as far back as the 1950s that their products are major contributors to climate change. But, the suit alleges, they misled the public and now must pay billions to help the state grapple with wildfires, droughts, sea level rise and other disasters that climate change has made worse.The lawsuit Attorney General Rob Bonta filed late Friday in San Francisco County Superior Court seeks to force the oil companies to create an “abatement fund” to pay for damages that California will experience in the coming decades because of hotter temperatures and extreme weather events. It lists ExxonMobil, Shell, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and BP, along with the American Petroleum Institute, as defendants.“For more than 50 years, Big Oil has been lying to us,” said Gov. Petaluma shoe store theft suspects found with firearm (BCN) -- A San Rafael man and woman were accused of possessing a concealed weapon when their vehicle was searched in connection with a theft from a shoe store, Petaluma police said Friday. A short time later, Taylor Jones, 31, Jaewon Hwang, 43, and three others who weren't arrested were found in a vehicle pulling into the Gateway Shopping Center, police said. During a search of the vehicle, officers located the stolen merchandise. Jones was found with 23.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and an unregistered firearm and ammunition was found where Hwang had been seated, police said. SFFD contains fires in Marina District, Inner Sunset neighborhoods (BCN) -- In the span of two hours, San Francisco firefighters had to contain two fires in the city early Saturday morning. Around 1:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a one-alarm fire in the Marina District neighborhood. Salesforce CEO: Why can’t SF be ‘clean and safe’ every day? The blaze occurred at a residence at 2250 Bay Street, the San Francisco Fire Department said on social media. The fire was contained within 25 minutes, according to firefighters, who added that no one suffered injuries or was displaced due to the blaze. Shortly before 3 a.m., firefighters were also alerted to a multi-residential structure fire at 332 Irving Street in the Inner Sunset neighborhood. An occupant was rescued and had to be sent to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention, firefighters said. The fire was contained at 3:15 a.m., according to the fire department.
